Dear Folks: Yesterday we went to Sunday school and church and I was so glad I did because this time I saw Francis Woodfill and her boys. I talked to her after church and she said Bertil had gone hunting so she planned to go up to the Hasty Tasty for something to eat and then take the boys to a show so I said I would drop her off up there. Then Rose came up and said she was going to the Hasty Tasty to eat and asked about a ride so we all rode together and then Frances and boys and Rose went in to eat together which was nice. I would have asked Rose out to have dinner with us but we were invited over to Jim and Zora's for the afternoon and for supper so I couldn't, but we all had a good time talking and they are anxious to see you, Pop, if you get here. Rose said Mary is so good in Sunday school. She said all the other little kids get restless and fool around but Mary sits there so good and pays attention. Now she goes around telling everyone that they are God's child. Jim and Zora have neighbors who had an old upright piano they wanted to sell so we walked over and looked at it and bought it for twenty-five dollars. It came out today so we have all had fun playing it and I am going to get a piano tuner out here soon and have it tuned. I really can thank you now for the lessons I had on the piano because it is so much fun playing it and I want to practice a lot and get better. I am going to teach Jimmy the notes and the beginning of it and if he still seems interested I want him to start taking lessons from Rose. I think I told you that we have a Mother's Club in our neighborhood. We meet once a month and plan things for the children. We planned a Halloween party for the real small ones who aren't in school because all the school kids will get their parties in school. I am having the three and four year old ones over here Saturday afternoon for their party. I'll have it down in the basement. Another woman was supposed to have it but she is sick so they called me tonight to see if I would take it over. I hated to do it because on Saturdays I always take Mary and Jimmy to the matinee at the Park Theatre and leave them and pick them up later. Frances said her boys always go too so she invited me over to her place this coming Saturday to watch the football game over their television set while the kids were at the show. I'll have to call her now and tell her I can't make it. Last Saturday George and Doris Ducret and their boys came over in the afternoon and I had my usual Saturday beans baking in the oven so had them all stay for supper. They invited us over there for Thanksgiving dinner. That will be fun and I told Doris I wanted to chip in on the turkey and I'll bring some of the food too. I might invite them over here for Christmas dinner. I should have Recrofts too but don't know yet. That was a good idea about how to fix a big table but then I don't have the chairs either. Tomorrow afternoon I am going over to Selma's and take care of her baby while she goes downtown for her six week checkup. Bob's wife, Dolores, has to have an operation as a big lump has formed on her side internally and it is full of poisonous waste and suppose to be disastrous if it should break. We never see them but Grandma Carlson tells the news she knows. Jimmy was elected to be on the student council for his room. One girl and one boy were chosen. He wondered and wondered who would be the one and I tried to prepare him for the fact that he probably wouldn't be the one so he was pretty excited when he was. He has to give a talk on safety next week. They are on the council for ten days and then somebody else is chosen so they will all have their turn. Our weather is still just perfect but it can change any day now. Are Jim and Ruth on their trip now? Tell Stella I am going to write to her this week. I planned to write tonight but it was late before I got Mary and Jimmy into bed and is late now so I think I had better stop and get into bed. I hope you will be coming, Pop, and if you do I hope we still have this nice weather. With Love, Helen Morning: I just cleaned up the house and am going to get myself cleaned up now and then go over to Selma's. Eden is going along too so I will pick her up first and her little girl. |
