Dear Folks,
Well we are into another month and Cully is still with us and still no orders from his board. The boys left yesterday and will be on the road a week – not getting home until next Monday night.
Kinney Middeuts from Ohio arrived here Saturday morning. We went downtown that afternoon to look through the stores. That night I had the shower here so she entertained herself. She managed to get a room at the Guyon but has been eating her meals with me. She enjoyed the game Sunday night. It was one of the best as we beat the Detroit Red Wings 3-2. Kinney was sent to Chicago by her company to do some work in their office here. She expects to go home Wednesday night. Last night after I fed the kids I met her downtown. She took me to dinner and then we went to see the stage play, “Kiss and Tell.” We bought our tickets Saturday. It was real cute. After the show we decided to go for a subway ride – something new for us both. It was fun too. Helen Johnson took care of the kids for me so tonight I will take Johnny for her – so I guess Kinney will have to go out alone or just stay here and visit. I’m so all in all I want to do is go to bed. Viola will be here next week for 3 or 4 days.
Saturday I bought material for new kitchen curtains. They are real colorful and pretty. Let me know if there is anything you need that you can’t buy out there. It seems there is so much more of everything here. How about candy and bars, etc. Is it still hard to get?
Thanks for the cute card to Ruthie with her prayer. I want to get a little frame for it and hang it up by her bed. Enjoyed Jim’s letter – will be anxious now to hear where he was sent.
Glad to hear you spent a night at the cabin and also that Gossards joined you on Sunday. We will have them again if Cully is able to get out there.
Kay and Jim Murphy will see Cully play in New York next Sunday night. He is going on business for 10 days. His boss told him to take his wife and all her expenses will be paid too. She is so thrilled as it will be her first trip to N.Y. I wish I could go along. Glad the Hawthorn boy got to see a game. He should have looked Cully up afterwards.
Hearing about Sam Prest’s job and pay in Alaska makes Cully wish he could go up. He says he would if he could take the family along.
Heard from Elizabeth and she sounded like she enjoyed her visit with us. I think it was nice she could get down to see us.
We are now in 4th place and only two games out of second – anything can happen now. If we keep going like we have been we will have a good chance to finish 2nd or 3rd. If we make the playoffs which we should the boys are guaranteed at least their regular salary. If we lasted only two weeks it would mean no less than $600 so we hope we are still around. We could live a long time at the cabin on that. The series will be 4 out of 7 – winners will play 4 out of 7 again for the Stanley Cup.
Bill Thoms is in his 3rd month at the hospital. His incision keeps draining and will not heal but he is up most of each day and getting stronger all the time. He lost 45 lbs. They expect to let him come home soon so there isn’t much use to stay any longer as it would heal just as fast at home. His salary and hospitalization is costing the club about $12,000 this winter.
Have you seen or heard from Kathy?
I sure owe a lot of letters again. After Kinney leaves I will have to get busy. The boys will be home for two weeks after this trip and so many things are lined up already. Time sure is going fast. Hope we can see the season thru. More soon.
Love to all, Gladys.
