Grand Beach, Michigan Dear Folks, Living in this country wouldn't be half bad if we could just stay on this beautiful lake. We came up yesterday afternoon with Eddie. Most of them went in swimming last night and said the water was swell. We all went in today and managed to get a slight red back. Ruthie is having a picnic. Dorothy and I just came in with Jeannie so she is fed and to bed. We will go back this evening after a wonderful time. We saw Murphy's and their cottage too. Jeannie loves the sand and Cully wishes we had the trailer so we could take a load of it back. We went into Indiana and got here (Michigan) and the day before we went to Kenosha, Wisconsin. It was beautiful there too on the lake. Our friend Doug Larkin and wife have a grand home. They took us out for lunch at noon and then for a drive and then home and put Jeannie to bed. I left her with Mrs. Larkin while we went shopping at their Penny Store. Cully bought a couple summer suits. Then had dinner at their home that evening. Didn't get home until after midnight. Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday we spent working at the house. Cully certainly has done well with his painting. Wednesday we answered an ad for a washing machine and ended up buying it. It is a Thor [?] - 7 years old but in very good condition for $70.00. We went right home and washed clothes. They came out so nice and white so I am happy. Enjoyed your nice letter that came Thursday. Also the clipping that Jim wrote. It was really good. I will send it to Helen very soon. Cully goes back to work Monday. We surely have had a nice vacation. Louise Schnable will arrive sometime next week. It will be good to see her but I do hope she won't stay long. Vi and John will be here in October. Our house is all paid for and a clear title all up to date. Eddie did a fine job of taking care of everything - even to paying the taxes. We feel better now and know we will like our place. The light woodwork certainly improves the looks. My room is pink walls and blue ceiling and looks so clean and cheery. What did Pop decide on the Auburn job? I hope so. Will write more soon. Love, Gladys. |
