Dear Pop, Just a note to let you know we are new proud owners of a home. It isn’t new or just what we would like to have but plenty good enough – handy to the Rock Island train (2 blocks) which gets Cully to work in about 25 minutes – also close to a nice shopping district and across the street from a nice school. Cully is over to the house now unloading the trailer. Today I bought a second-hand davenport and chair that he has to pick up tomorrow night. I have a refrigerator to look at Saturday so have a good start on furnishing the place. I expect we will get moved in to stay over the weekend. The house is a brick bungalow about 15 to 18 years old – in fine condition except for a little paint and general cleaning up. We have a living room, dining room, kitchen, 2 bedrooms, bath and sleeping porch – full basement and double garage. The lot is narrow but quite deep so the back yard isn’t too bad. The attic is high and has a full floor so is a dandy place for storage. I think we should be very comfortable and happy there. We have been with the Sporrers a week tonight and living out of suitcases the whole time so we sure are anxious to get settled. Cully likes his work real well. They will send him to school for a while starting the 12th of this month. His hours now are 8:30 to 5:15. We are 12 miles from downtown so good transportation sure is important. We are near the Murphy’s, Sporrers, Dunnes and others so should not get lonesome. Write soon – haven’t had a letter from anyone yet. Tell Stella our new address and I will try to write to her soon. Love Gladys and all. |
