Dear Folks:
I think it is about time I get another letter written to you. We still have cool weather and it certainly seems nice. When Stella and Harold were here we had our first heat wave and have had cool weather ever since they left.
Today, over at Powderhorn Park, they had Wonderland Day for the kids. I took Jimmy and Mary and we went with Nellie and her children. They had a lot of entertainment. There were puppet shows, magicians and clowns so the kids all had a good time. We haven't seen anything of Bob and Dolores so I don't know how they are doing. They go over to Nellie's often but Nellie and I never mention them.
George left for Wisconsin yesterday so he won't be staying with us anymore. He expects to be there about three weeks and then when he comes back he can move into his house and his wife and boys will come. This winter he will be in town most of the time as it will be too cold for him to do field work. He and Doris live separately most of the time but George hates to quit his job because when he is 55 he can retire from the government. He is 45 now so his thirty years with the government will be up in ten more years. It is nice to have him gone although we like him and he is a very nice person.
Eden and Wally are still looking for a house. Eden said when real estate people find they haven't any money they aren't interested in helping them find a place. We went out with them one night looking at new small houses and for 12 thousand they don't get very much, and they need 3 or 4 thousand for a down payment.
I haven't been to church much this summer but want to at least get over to see Gwen Winters soon. I have been wondering if John is still working on his book and how they are getting along. I want to see Rose too.
Elmer is awfully busy at work and is still working Saturday mornings. I met him at the office last Saturday at noon to see the Acquatennial parade. It didn't start until three in the afternoon but at twelve o'clock we could hardly find a place all along Nicollet to sit. We did get a good place but had to sit there for three hours but it went by quickly as there were lots of people to watch and clowns paraded up and down. The kids didn't seem to mind the wait at all. The Acquatennial is supposed to be like the Mardi Gras in New Orleans. It is quite a big thing here and has been going on for about the last seven years.
Next week there is going to be a carnival for kids and all those who want to can enter in the parade with their buggies and tricycles. Mary wants to enter but I don't know if I will encourage it or not. This city certainly is good about planning things all summer for children. There is always something going on. Is there any hope of you coming back here in the fall, Pop. I sure hope you can.
That reminds me I had a letter from Aunt Ruth a few days ago so want to drop her a line now. Write soon and I will write more later. Goodbye for now.
With Love, Helen
