Dear Folks: We are way down south in Mississippi and certainly are enjoying our trip. Now we know what is meant by the “Poor South.” The niggers live in nothing but shacks – many with no windows at all and the whole house almost falling in. The weather is grand, and the flowers beautiful. It is just like the middle of summer. We will be in New Orleans today. If it is so we can we want to take a sight-seeing tour of the city. Ruthie is a perfect baby. We have the whole back seat fixed up for her. The floor part is built up level with the seat so she can’t roll off. She can sleep any time she wants to. When she is awake she sits up in front with us in the chair Stella and Harold sent her for Christmas. She loves to ride so is happy all day long. We have very few diapers as we have her potty along and she goes on it every little while. We have caught all the big jobs. We left Minneapolis Wednesday morning and drive as far as Hannibal, Missouri. We gave Ruthie her first shower bath. She is getting to be a big girl. Received your nice letter Tuesday. Was glad to hear from you before we left. Will write more in a day or so. Love to all, Gladys. |
