Dear Pop,
I certainly have neglected you but have been so terribly busy and upset we don’t know which way to turn. Right now I’m sitting in the car waiting for Cully. We are out house hunting again. Know there is a place for us but it sure looks bad. We got into Chicago Wednesday evening around 8 o’clock and couldn’t get into the Guyon. We finally found one room with one bed about 10:30 that night so slept 4 in a bed. The weather is hot and sticky and all our clothes seem to be packed in the wrong place. Thursday we went out to Sporrers and have stayed there the last two nights. They are wonderful to us but are not settled either as they just moved in this month. I feel we just can’t stay very long. We looked at a cute house last night 22 miles from the city. They are asking $7500 for it and it isn’t worth more than $3500. No basement and a very small frame building. The brick houses all run around $10,000 and some are real old and run down. There just isn’t anything for rent. From here we plan to drive out toward a couple little lakes in hopes we can find a cottage for the summer. I know we would be happier out of the city. Last night we stopped at the Guyon and found a wire there from Mother. I was so glad to know she had reached Helen’s okay and that Helen is fine and has a little girl. I’ll be anxious to hear the details.
Tell Stella and Harold “hello” and we will write again soon. I hope you are getting along fine and that I will have an address so you can write to us before so long. I will write to Mother tonight. Have you been up to the cabin?
Love, Gladys
