Dear Folks: I have slipped again as far as letter writing is concerned. We are cooking a regular mulligan stew tonight. It sure smells good. Cully is as much the cook as I am. He helped prepare the vegetables and brown the meat. It is fun trying out these new things. Last night Al and Evelyn were here for dinner. We had T-bone steaks and broiled them, baked potatoes, buttered beets, pickles, coffee and ice cream – also salad. Afterwards we went down to the Chicago Theater and saw, “Men with Wings” and Bob Crosby on the stage. It was all very good. The game Sunday night was terribly exciting and awfully rough. I was glad when it was over. Cully played a lot and was down most of the time. He is still pretty sore and bruised but nothing bad. They leave tomorrow night for Detroit. In the afternoon we will have our Thanksgiving dinner. We are going to roast a small chicken with oyster dressing. Just us two. I’m going to try to make a cranberry pie. Will you send me Glenn and Beryl’s new address? Tonight we are all going to the ice carnival as guests of someone. It’s nice to go to things free. The boys get passes to a lot of things. I’m going over to Polly’s early Thursday morning and might stay all night. Cully will be gone about 6 days this trip. We still haven’t had any snow or real cold weather. It certainly does seem funny to hear of your cold. Sunday afternoon was so nice we drove out to the zoo and looked at the animals. We stood and watched the monkeys for almost an hour. The place is huge and we didn’t nearly cover it so will go back again our first chance. Saturday noon I met Polly downtown and had lunch with her and then we went to the Field Museum to a lecture and picture review. It was lovely. They showed pictures of Pike’s Peak, Rocky Mt. National Park, Mt. Rainier, Grand Canyon, Bolder and so many things I’ve seen. Also some beautiful pictures of Hawaii. Pop’s letter was swell and full of news. The skiing reports always interest me. It sounds as though they are going full swing. Does Harold go up much – and how about Stella? Some of the boys talked to the manager of the hotel and he lowered our rent to $45.00 instead of $50.00. Cully wasn’t even in on it. We are putting the extra $5.00 in our bank for the West. I only wish we could go out and start some kind of a little business next summer and stay until fall. Last night Cully told me that he thought I’d better buy a fur coat. I was really tickled. It does get cold here and especially when every girl on the whole club has one it makes me sort of want one too. I’ll get it just as soon as Cully gets back. Of course, he will go with me when I get it. He is a funny fellow. No matter what I buy he wants to be along. It’s funny he doesn’t go to the beauty shop with me. Wednesday Didn’t finish this last night. The ice show was wonderful. We talked to the troupe. It was the same bunch we saw in Los Angeles in May. I met a lot of them then. These Nelson Sisters from Minneapolis are real nice. I must close because I have a busy day ahead of me. I have to shop and then get busy on our dinner. I’ll write again soon. Love, Gladys |
