On the train for Little Falls My Dear Girls, We are on our way to see Uncle Frank’s. Will send you a money order from Little Falls so you can pay the water bill. It must be paid before the 15th. I have sent the washing machine money. We have enjoyed your letters so much – now we will soon be home. We will arrive in Kanasket at 6:48 Saturday night, October 13th. Be sure to meet us there. I feel you girls are doing just fine and George has been so good to you. You girls are doing fine to keep the bills down, but I want you to have what you need too. I am glad you like the slickers and that it did not rain until you got them. We have had some rain but just showers. The days have been beautiful. We have gotten around to see so many people and have not missed very many. We will have to tell you about it all when we get home. Every place we went the folks have asked about you all - have been sorry you were not with us, and wanted to be remembered. We called on Schnables and Schaafs. Viola and Louise are really beautiful girls. I just know you would fall in love with Viola for we did. Schaafs have a beautiful home that they moved into last May. It is heartbreaking to see Dolores Schaaf. Do you remember that little lady we saw at the tourist kitchen in Portland, the hunchback? Well Dolores is just as deformed as she. She and Agnes are very lady-like and play lovely on the piano. Last night I went out and spent the evening with Mrs. Prescott. Dorothea June is a lovely little girl, fatter than Stella but not as tall. Donald is tall, slender and handsome. Really a lovely, likeable boy. Speck, Frank and papa went to a lecture in St. Paul last night. Called for me at Mrs. Prescott’s on the way home. They heard Galvin Allen and papa said it was like seeing an old friend. We have just passed the reformatory at St. Cloud. Yesterday we took Frank and Speck downtown for lunch. We had chop suey – it was very good. This is some scribbling. The train shakes and then Jimmie jars my arm. Hope you can read it. I should love to have more time around here and feel I have just had a glimpse of the folks but even at that it has seemed very good to be here. At first I worried at night time about you girls until your letters came, then I felt better about you all. Must write some to Mrs. Thurston so will close. With lots of love to you all from all – Mamma XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX Jimmies’ kisses |
