Dear Girls,
We are going up 16 Mile Canyon. It is a lovely day and quite warm.
Jimmy liked the berth last night. Said he was glad he came. The moon shown so beautiful and he wanted to look out and talk so much that I was afraid he never would go to sleep before we reached Spokane, so Papa and I got off there to mail your letter.
The porter would not build a fire last night so we did not have our eggs and tea. Papa said to tell you girls that he ate 4 for breakfast. The train swings around so that I can hardly write.
Today I found out Wilbur’s mamma is a member of the C. S. Church of Kirkland, so we find plenty to visit about.
Jimmie thinks it is great to go thru the tunnels. He talks about you girls a lot.
Papa likes the looks of the auto road wherever he can see it. Some times it runs along beside our track. Says he is surely going to drive back some time.
We have a funny old lady on the train, talks to everyone and talks so loud that you can hear her all over the train.
There has been a heavy frost all thru here so all the leaves are very beautiful. We left Butte nearly four hours ago but are still in the mountains. We wakened about 6:30 western time and I wondered about you girls. Hope you are making out fine.
We keep going into tunnels so often I can only write a few lines at a time before it gets dark and I have to stop for a minute.
I will mail this one next stop.
With lots of love to each one, Mamma.
We see funny little school houses thru the country and not a house for miles. The children must come from somewhere.
Bye-Bye.
