Dear Folks, It is another very hot day and the kids are outside playing with the hose so I'll write to you. This is Bob's last week as a single man as they are being married next Saturday by the Justice of the Peace. Then Dolores wants to go and be blessed by the Priest and Bob to sign the paper saying his children will be raised Catholic. But Bob doesn’t want to do that so I don't know how it will turn out yet. Saturday night Florence had a party for Dolores and Bob. It was just the relatives. A week from next Wednesday Dolores' mother is having a big shower for them and is expecting about two hundred people. She has rented a hall for the affair. Sunday we had a nice time. Elmer and I and the kids left here about ten in the morning and went out to Lake Minnetonka and got a boat and went fishing. We caught some small ones and we found a cool shady place to anchor the boat. We spent most of our time at the lake and then on the way back we stopped in Hopkins where the raspberry festival was going on. There was a carnival so the children had a couple rides and then we drove down to Lake of the Isles and it was so cool we stayed until the mosquitoes chased us away. This morning I had to take plans out to the heating men and the electrician. They are both starting this week and the plumber is supposed to come too. We are having an oil burner put in and it is the kind that can be converted to gas when it is available. The heating costs 800 dollars complete with everything. The mill work is supposed to come this week so when the windows get in the house will look pretty far along. The roof is shingled now so it looks pretty good. We are having extra heat ducts in the recreation room so that will be a swell place for the kids to play. I'm watching the ads now for furniture, especially a refrigerator and stove. There are lots of them advertised. Last week Elmer had to go to St. Peter for one day and tomorrow he has to go to Mankato and do some surveying as they are starting a new job there. He may have to stay over night. Mother what shall I send the kids for their belated wedding present for about five dollars. You know what they need. Would they rather have the money? Let me know what would be the best. I got a package from Glad today with some clothes for Mary so had better write to her now. I bet Ruth hates to be alone after the Peeping Tom was around. I can imagine how frightened she must have been. More later. Love, Helen |
